Plurk Layouts in 2010

Posted on 08. Jan, 2010 by in Blog.

Hey everyone,

Firstly, Happy New Year icon smile Plurk Layouts in 2010 We hope you all have a healthy, successful 2010!

Secondly, we would like to say thank you, to all of you, for all your tremendous amount of support.

We have now been running Plurk Layouts for just over 1 and a half years — when we first started this website we didn’t quite realise it would be so successful.

Early 2009

In early 2009 we began to have problems, thousands and thousands were using layouts from Plurk Layouts and our little server just couldn’t handle it.

Images stopped showing up for you, the website kept crashing, you couldn’t install new layouts etc – it was a nightmare! A few months later, after a huge amount of research we moved to 2 servers! We had to move to 2 servers because the demand on our original little server just got bigger and bigger.

Early 2010

It’s now early 2010 and we have come to a decision. Due to the extreme demand, the cost of 2 servers just went through the roof, and we have not been able to balance what’s going out, and what’s coming in. What I mean is, the amount of money we have had to spend, and the amount coming back in to cover costs are not balanced.

We are essentially paying for users to have a free layout.

We can no longer keep Plurk Layouts as it is now. So we have had to make some tough, and cut-throat decisions. We have to cut back and that means eliminating what causes such demand on our servers — free plurk layouts.

So as of January 2010 we won’t be publishing any free layouts on Plurk Layouts and all free layouts currently being used will be disabled – this may seem rather radical but it is the only option if we are going to be able to continue to provide layouts for plurkers.

Our other option would simply be to close this website… however this would be a great shame and we have tried to find a half-way-house… thus being, no free layouts, however we do still have “exclusive” layouts.

This, we hope will enable us to cover our costs and continue to provide Plurk users with designs for their profile.

What This Means For You

To put it very simply, we will continue to update the website, however we will only update it with layouts which require purchasing.

All you need to do to use Plurk Layouts is either use a credit card and purchase through Google Checkout, or go through PayPal.

Thank you

Thank you again, for all your tremendous support. icon smile Plurk Layouts in 2010

Ah…. I’m sorry to hear that, but fully understand your problem!

Thanks for the long time we’ve had with your free layouts, it was very generous of you :-)

You layouts aren’t that expensive to buy, so hopefully people will start to buy the ones they want instead!

….and there is always the plurk layout generator – which I’ll try out later too.

    Keep up the good work!

Good. Work have to be compensated – a generally accepted concept at factories and other workplaces.

Anyone wishing to have a free layout can create one for free – unless he counts the invested hours as a cost.

Wishing you good luck and success in 2010. :)
